Ushna Suhail – An Accomplished Tennis Star

There is no doubt in the fact that Pakistan is one of those countries which is loaded with talented individuals hailing from its every nook and corner. Especially women are making their names in the fields which were once considered as male-centric. Ushna Suhail is also one such name that has emerged as a Tennis Star in Pakistan.

Hailing from the family of tennis players, Ushna is the grand daughter of Khwaja Iftikhar, who was a well-known tennis player and was also the recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and the Pride of Performance. Ushna, herself, has many accolades to her name. She became the first woman from Pakistan to receive an International Ranking in Women Tennis Association in both singles and doubles.

In 2014, Suhail became the first woman, along with Sara Mansoor, to represent Pakistan in Asian Games through their participation. Suhail also became the only representation of Pakistan in said games in 2017 and 2018 as well. Along with this, she also holds the privilege of representing Pakistan in the Islamic Games in May 2017.

Legions of her achievements are centered around her performances on an international level. She has participated in 130 tournaments arranged by International Tennis Federation in 33 countries. Her participation in the 12th  and 13th South Asian Games, taking place in 2016 and 2019 respectively, fetched her 4 Bronze Medals. She has also been the representation of Pakistan in the Fed Cup for 9 consecutive years. In the 33rd National Games of 2019, she has 3 Gold Medals to her name and is the winner of 35 Ladies Singles Titles.

Receiving training from 8 international tennis academies, Suhail is also a well-educated and learned girl with a Degree in Business Administration from the University of London.

Her profile, where on one hand, highlights her exceptional sports skills, it also shows her anthropological concerns, on the other. In 2018, she became the Goodwill Ambassador of Punjab for Wildlife & Parks Deptt. She has also been named as the Honourary Youth Ambassador for Polio Eradication appointed by the Government of Punjab, Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation in February 2016.
