Election Commission of Pakistan Reveals Schedule for General Elections

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the next General Elections would take place in the last week of January 2024. The ECP has been actively working on the delineation of constituencies and plans to release an initial list of these divisions on September 27, 2023.

Following the release of the initial list, the final list of constituencies will be compiled by November 30, taking into consideration objections and suggestions from various stakeholders.

The ECP has confirmed that the General Election campaign will span 54 days, culminating in the Election itself at the end of January next year.

This news follows the ECP’s recent statement that it planned to meet with political parties to discuss the General Election’s code of conduct in the coming month. The ECP has already shared a draft code of conduct with political parties to solicit their input before finalizing the guidelines.

Political parties, candidates, and election workers must avoid any actions or statements that could jeopardize Pakistan’s fundamental principles, including its sovereignty, stability, security, moral standards, and public order, as well as the independence and legitimacy of its judiciary. This is strongly stressed in the proposed code of conduct. They must also refrain from making fun of or insulting any of the executive, legislative, or judicial parts of the Government.
